The Commissionerate of Rural Development(CRD) is part of the
Panchayat, Rural Housing and Commissionerate of Rural Development. The CRD
implements schemes for generation of self employment and wage employment,
provision of housing and minor irrigation assets to rural poor, social
assistance to the destitute and rural roads. Apart from this, the CRD also
provides support services and other quality inputs such as assistance for
strengthening District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) Administration,
Panchayat Raj Institutions (PRI), training and Research, human resource
development, development of voluntary action, etc., for the proper
implementation of the programmes. Currently in the state, DRDA, Ahmedabad,
enjoys the status of being ISO 9001 certified.
The wing is headed by the jointly held position of Commissioner and Secretary,
and is supported by sectoral officers (Assistant Development Officers).In order
that the programme implementation reflects the need and aspirations of the
local people, the Panchayati Raj Institutions are considered to be an important
tool for the implementation of the Programmes of the CRD.
