Project Title :

  • Development of local Bhungroo system as a solution to environment-friendly on-farm livelihood options to the marginal farmers in Sami taluka of Patan district.

Project Objective :

  • To increase the income of 500 BPL family members of the project area and thereby facilitate them to come above the poverty level .
  • To enable the marginal farmers to reap positive output from their land in spite of paucity of water in this drought and earthquake affected project area.
  • To introduce the farmers to ecologically and economically sustainable innovation in agriculture.
  • To institutionalization of the process through the SHG interventions.
  • Replication of the innovation in critical saline and drought prone region.

Project Area :
  • Sami taluka of Patan district.

Total Project Cost :
  • Rs. 99,16,000, JFPR contribution Rs. 57,54,000

Project Duration :
  • Two Year.

Targeted Beneficiaries
(No of BPL families, other households, tribals etc)
  • 500 BPL family members.

Project Outputs And Monitorable Indicators :

  • By the end of the project period 500 BPL family members will be brought above poverty line. Total income generated would be between Rs 29,20,000 to Rs 1,49,20,0000 during the project period.

Key Implementation Activities :

  • Formation of SHGs.
  • Collection of Monsoon rainfall and water pocket formation through the Bhungroo.
  • Water lifting from Bhungroo and irrigation for cash crop like Cotton or cumin in at least 10 vighas of land through one Bhungroo.
  • Agro input need support to the BPL members by the SHG/cluster
  • Expert Technical guidance on the innovation to the BPL members
  • Institutionalization process for the project
  • Media, communication and documentation

  • Monitoring and Evaluation
  • Staff budget

Implementation Arrangements And Partnerships :

  • Active BPL members will be identified, they will be given the support with the help of SHGs for collection of runoff surface water, filter it and develop a series of Bhungroo in their won fields.  The stored water will be reused for winter cropping with higher return.
