Project Title :

  • Organic Vegetable and Fodder production with Micro Irrigation: Eco Friendly and Wealth Creating Farming Practice for Improving the Livelihood of Women in Banaskantha.

Project Objective :

  • To demonstrate the positive impacts of sustainable farming --organic farming, vermi composting and bio pesticide use--on soil-plant ecosystem health, soil bio diversity and biophysical aspects of crop production through setting up of on-farm  demonstrations.
Project Area :
  • Banaskantha District, Taluka – Palanpur, Dantiwada, Danta and Vadgam and 30 villages.
Total Project Cost :
  • Rs. 1,894,200=00:  JFPR Grant – Rs.1, 520,200=00

Project Duration :

  • Two Year

Targeted Beneficiaries (No of BPL families, other households, tribals etc)

  • 500 women from BPL families in one taluka.

Project Outputs And Monitorable Indicators :
  • Establishment of 400 vegetable gardens using vermicomposts and with improved irrigation devices and demonstrations of 5 fodder plots and farms plots in each. The management of these farms would be by SHGs in these villages.
Key Implementation Activities :

  • Development and Implementation of Communication Package.
  • Use of scientific farm on organic farming.
  • Setting up of on farm demonstrations.
  • Supply of vermicomposts, drip irrigation kits.
  • Development of replicable models on organic vegetable farming.
  • Information dissemination.
  • Carrying out promotional activities on ecologically sound farming practices.

Implementation Arrangements And Partnerships

  • The small SHGs consisting of 15 – 20 members would be organized in different villages for adopting and managing individual and common drip irrigated fodder farms.
