Project Title

• Kitchen Garden in the Schools having Mid Day Meal Programme: Driving Health in Education and empowering the Students by Developing Skills & Awareness for the Utilization of Local Resources & imparting vocational training in modernizing method of farming as part of the curriculum.

Project Objective

• To provide nutritious food to the students of the school having Mid Day Meal programme with long term planning and supporting nutrition and better health to the children and promoting awareness towards the benefit of green environment.

Project Area :

• Panchmahals District; Kadana and Lunawada Talukas; 100 Schools

Total Project Cost :

• Rs. 5,683,600=00:  JFPR Grant – Rs. 2,326,000=00

Project Duration :

• One Year

Targeted Beneficiaries (No of BPL Families, Other Households, Tribals Etc)

• 10000 children from 100 schools in the two talukas.

Project Outputs And Monitorable Indicators

• Production of nutritious food & vegetables for consumption in schools having MDM programme and creating awareness of nutrition, building team spirit among the students and education of modern method of farming

Key Implementation Activities

• Identification & selection of schools that have the mid day meal program
• Identification of school principal & resource persons
• Organizational training to the staffs and resource persons (Training of Trainers)
• Formation of students core groups in the school
• Training of core groups
• Installation of drip irrigation system
• Sowing of vegetable and plantation of trees
• Ongoing planning, monitoring and learning through PRA technique 

Implementation Arrangements And Partnerships

• Land for Kitchen Gardening would be made available from Government of Gujarat.
• Office of the Commissionerate of Mid day Meal Programme & Rural Development would facilitate the implementation at the district level and ensure their contribution the project, while the NGO would be involved in community mobilization, imparting training and procurement & installation of the equipments.
