Project Title :

  • Supporting Women Groups to Manage Drinking Water Distribution by Water Tanker during Drought.

Project Objective :  

  • To equip the women groups of drought prone area to mitigate their drinking water needs during crisis and to empower and build capacity of women groups to take up the drinking water distribution management in their village during drought.

Project Area :

  • Surendernagar District; Sayla and Chotila Talukas; 20 villages

Total Project Cost :

  • Rs. 1,728,000=00:  JFPR Grant – Rs. 1,200,000=00

Project Duration :

  • One Year

Targeted Beneficiaries (No of BPL Families, Other Households, Tribals Etc)

  • 4000 households of 20 villages in two talukas.

Project Outputs And Monitorable Indicators :

  • Around 20 villages would have access to potable drinking water during acute water crisis in drought situation. The operational & maintenance cost would be met by the SHGs through the income earned on hire charges for the transport vehicle.

Key Implementation Activities :   

  • Meeting of federation and leaders of women groups to discuss about project.
  • Deciding operational mechanism, roles and responsibilities.
  • Inviting tender documents received and decision for work awards.
  • Analysis of tender received and decision for work awards.
  • Purchase of tractors and tanker.

Implementation Arrangements And Partnerships :

  • The federation of women SHGs would implement the project at village level and AKRSP would provide technical and managerial inputs. Operational mechanism like deciding charge of tanker per trip, recording movement register, repair and maintenance would be entirely taken care by federations.
  • No funds available under the regular ongoing Government of Gujarat schemes as this is the first time such a project is experimented.
